Right now, on the ice off Canada’s East Coast, fragile baby seals who are only a few weeks old spend their days resting and slowly building the strength they’ll need to survive—yet they remain utterly defenseless.
With the Canadian commercial seal hunt having just begun yesterday, baby seals will be shot and clubbed as they try to escape unimaginable cruelty. Wounded pups will be left to suffer and die slowly beneath the ice. Others will be impaled on metal hooks—some while still conscious—dragged across the ice, hoisted onto bloody boat decks and beaten to death for their fur. And as the hunt continues to ramp up, this suffering will only intensify.
This hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth. And with record low sea ice in recent years, pups already struggling to survive are facing even more brutal killing methods. You can be the reason a pup is spared from fear and suffering. You can be part of the reason this cruelty ends.
