Help end experiments on dogs and cats in the U.S.!
The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the world’s largest funder of animal research and testing, spending billions of dollars each year. We know it doesn’t have to be this way when superior, human-focused alternatives that could replace animal experiments—like organ-on-a-chip technology and advanced computational models —already exist. Taxpayers should not be paying for outdated animal research and testing—and we need your help to change it!
The Companion Animal Protection Against Cruel Testing (COMPACT) Act (H.R. 10522) is the first step. The first-of-its-kind legislation would prohibit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, including NIH, from using taxpayer dollars to fund experiments on dogs and cats. Countless animals would be saved from suffering, and it could result in more money being directed to superior alternatives that don’t use animals. The bill also prevents using federal funds to breed dogs and cats to be used in experiments and requires laboratories receiving federal funding to ensure that dogs and cats used in research and testing paid for by other sources are given an opportunity to be adopted into loving homes when the experiments end.
The NIH is a major funder of dog and cat research and testing, and this bill will bring us one step closer to stopping that funding. Please act NOW and tell your legislator to support this critical legislation!
