Save the Endangered Species Act!

For over fifty years, the Endangered Species Act has been our nation’s strongest tool in fighting extinction, credited with preventing the extinction of 99% of listed species. Now the very law that has saved the bald eagle and humpback whale is under attack in Congress, and we need your help to protect it!

The House’s ESA Amendments Act, H.R. 1897, would significantly weaken the Endangered Species Act, hurting the very species it was meant to protect and making it harder for vulnerable species to recover.

Dear Legislator, 

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the ESA Amendments Act, H.R. 1897, when it comes for a vote on the House floor. 

The ESA Amendments Act would significantly weaken the Endangered Species Act by rolling back critical federal rules that protect endangered and threatened species as well as eliminating existing guardrails to ensure the federal government does not take actions likely to destroy the critical habitat of the imperiled species. This bill also weakens current Fish and Wildlife requirements for importation of imperiled wildlife, making it easier for trophy hunters to bring the body parts of non-native species, like lions and elephants, back into the United States, further threatening the existence of iconic animals across the globe and incentivizing more trophy hunts. 

H.R. 1897 will also place significant new administrative burdens on federal agencies by turning the current process for listing and recovering species into a far lengthier process that blocks courts from reviewing key decisions, which only allows more animals to be harmed during the wait.
