Stand up for wolves!
As gray wolves continue to face ongoing threats to their survival, Congress is trying to axe science-backed Endangered Species Act protections that are critical to their recovery. And we need your help to fight back!
The Pet and Livestock Protection Act (H.R. 845) and its Senate companion, S.1306, would direct the Department of the Interior to remove federal Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves nationwide. If this happens, wolves will face an onslaught of cruel wildlife management practices and increased trophy hunting.
We’ve already seen what can happen when wolves are delisted. Last time they lost their ESA protections from late 2011-2014, nearly 1,500 wolves were killed by trophy hunters and recreational trappers in the Great Lakes region. In addition, since the early 2010s, wolves in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have faced heinous and irresponsible state practices, including year-round hunting seasons, snaring, baiting, poisoning, leghold traps, and being chased down by hounds.
Decisions impacting species’ recovery under the ESA should be based on scientific evidence, not the whims of politicians. These bills could spell disaster for wolves nationwide, so we must speak up NOW to stop these dangerous bills in their tracks.
