Michigan: Help stop the reopening of a year-round coyote hunt
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission is considering a proposed amendment (Wildlife Conservation Order Amendment No. 4 of 2025) that would allow year-round coyote hunting in Michigan, undoing a rule passed in 2024 that closed the hunting season from April 15 to July 15 to protect coyote pups. If passed, this amendment would lead to the cruel and unnecessary orphaning of dependent pups, who would likely starve to death without their parents.
Not only is this proposal harmful to wildlife, but it’s also unsupported by science. Research has shown that killing coyotes indiscriminately does not reduce their numbers or prevent conflicts with farm animals. It may even make these problems worse. The public trust in wildlife management is at risk, and so is the reputation of the hunting community.
