Pennsylvania: Help protect dogs, cats and other animals used in experiments
UPDATE: The Beagle Bill passed the House Judiciary Committee unanimously. Now let's get it through the full House!
Thousands of dogs and cats are currently suffering in Pennsylvania laboratories. Most will likely never know life outside the confines of a barren cage. They will be used in often painful and terrifying experiments and are usually killed when the experiments end.
Scientists are currently developing advanced non-animal technologies that rely on human biology rather than antiquated animal experiments. But until the day that humane methods have fully replaced animals, we have an obligation to help animals in laboratories.
The Beagle Bill (SB 381) would:
- Ensure that dogs and cats in laboratories have the opportunity to be adopted after the experiments end.
- End the sale of animal-tested cosmetics.
- Prohibit laboratories from using state taxpayer dollars to fund dog or cat experiments that fail to comply with federal research oversight provisions.
TAKE ACTION
Please make a brief, polite call to your Pennsylvania state representative today and ask them to support the Beagle Bill. Look up their phone number here. You can say: "As a voter and an animal lover, I am asking you to vote yes on the Beagle Bill (SB 381) to protect dogs and cats used in experiments in Pennsylvania, end the sale of animal-tested cosmetics, and ensure that dogs and cats have the chance to be adopted into loving homes after the experiments have ended."
