Pennsylvania: Help protect dogs, cats and other animals used in experiments
UPDATE: SB 381 unanimously passed the Senate Judiciary Committee and will soon be up for a floor vote in the Senate, so it’s important that your state senator hears from you!
Thousands of dogs and cats are currently suffering in Pennsylvania laboratories and breeding facilities that supply laboratories. Most will likely never know life outside the confines of a barren cage. They will be used in painful and terrifying experiments and killed when the experiments end.
Scientists are currently developing advanced non-animal technologies that rely on human biology rather than antiquated animal experiments. But until the day that humane methods have fully replaced animals, we have an obligation to ease the suffering of animals in laboratories and laboratory breeding facilities.
The Beagle Bill (SB 381) would:
- Prevent laboratories from using state funds to support painful experiments on dogs and cats.
- Mandate that laboratories receiving state funds provide information about animal experiments conducted at their facilities.
- Require laboratories that test pesticides, drugs, cosmetics, industrial chemicals, household cleaners and other products on animals to switch to non-animal tests as soon as they are approved by regulatory agencies.
TAKE ACTION
Please make a brief, polite call to your Pennsylvania state senator today and ask them to support the Beagle Bill. Look up their phone number here. You can say: "As a voting constituent and an animal lover, I am asking you to support the Beagle Bill (SB381) to protect dogs and cats used in experiments in Pennsylvania, mandate the use of alternatives to animal testing when available, and ensure that dogs and cats have the chance to be adopted into loving homes after their time in the laboratory has ended.”
After making your call (please do not skip that crucial step!), fill in and submit the form below to send a follow-up message.
