Preserve ESA protections for wolves and grizzly bears!
As gray wolves and grizzly bears continue to face ongoing threats to their survival, Congress is trying to axe science-backed Endangered Species Act protections that are critical to their recovery. And we need your help to fight back!
The House and Senate have introduced bills directing the Department of Interior to rollback critical protections and it's imperative that your Senators and Representative hear from you that you oppose these dangerous policies:
- H.R. 845, H.R. 130 and S. 1306 seek to delist the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act and prohibit judicial review of the action, one of the main ways we have to fight back against these anti-wildlife attacks. Removing gray wolf protections nationwide would not only jeopardize their recovery and the ecological health of their ecosystems, but it would also undermine the ESA's ability to base listing decisions on scientific evidence and not political interests.
- H.R. 281 and its Senate counterpart S. 316 would direct the Secretary of the Interior to reissue a final rule removing ESA protections for the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem population of grizzly bears. Fewer than 2,000 grizzly bears now survive in the lower 48 states and prematurely removing grizzly bears' ESA protections will lead to reckless state management including trophy hunts opposed by the public, which would be detrimental to their survival.
- H.R. 1897 would detrimentally change the Endangered Species Act, hurting the very species it was meant to protect and making it harder for federal agencies to recover vulnerable species.
Protecting our nation's wildlife should be based on scientific evidence, not the whims of politicians. These bills would be detrimental to the survival of gray wolves and grizzly bears, so we must speak up NOW to stop these dangerous bills in their tracks.
TAKE ACTION
Please take a moment to call your two U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative. You can find their contact information here. You can say, "As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO on H.R. 845, H.R. 130, H.R. 281, H.R. 1897 and S.316. Gray wolves and grizzly bears are an iconic native species and removing federal protections granted by the Endangered Species Act will undermine their recovery and jeopardize their survival."
