Stand with us to end experiments on dogs

Experiments on dogs are more common than most people realize. More than 40,000 dogs are used in experiments each year in the United States. In addition, tens of thousands of puppies destined for labs are born at breeding facilities every year. This number increases dramatically worldwide.

At the end of the experiments, the dogs are typically killed.

Many dogs (an average of nearly 400 per year over the last three years) are not given any kind of pain medication to help relieve their suffering or distress during or after the experiment.

This is not a small problem. Experiments using dogs are happening in 46 U.S. states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. The federal government plays a role by funding, requiring and/or carrying out these experiments. In 2024 alone, the National Institutes of Health awarded over $50 million in taxpayer dollars for experiments using dogs.

We need your help to end this. Please stand with us and call on governments in the U.S. and around the globe to end experiments on dogs and invest in science that doesn’t cause animal suffering.

I support ending experiments on dogs. There are serious ethical and scientific issues associated with the use of our companions as experimental models. We must proactively, and fully, replace dogs with non-animal technologies.

Significant progress has been made in the development of these sophisticated non-animal methods, which provide results that are faster, more accurate and better at mimicking the human body than the outdated experiments that have been used for decades. These technologies will only continue to evolve and improve, while antiquated animal experiments will still have severe limitations.

No dog deserves to suffer in a barren laboratory, especially when the potential exists for methods that are better for both humans and animals.
